S-MBITAC0101 - Mindfulness-Based Intervention: Teaching Assessment Criteria Level 1 (MBI:TAC)
Course Description
This first-level training offers background and rationale of the MBI:TAC domains, and explores its use as a self-reflective, strength-based tool to support a teacher's personal development, self-knowledge, and skill enhancement. In addition, this training introduces many of the issues and practices of using the instrument for self and peer feedback, mentoring and supervision.
Expectations:
Participants will have weekly assignments to watch video teaching clips, reflect, and assess teaching; along with opportunities to connect with classmates for reflection and self-study of one’s own teaching. Time commitment between sessions: 1-1.5 hours. Prior reading list is available before the class begins, and shorter readings may be assigned week to week.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will have had the opportunity to:
- Identify how the use of formative assessment, developmental feedback, and evaluation supports the field of MBPs in training and mentoring
- Review and articulate the rationale, creation and implications of the MBI:TAC; and identify the multiple uses for the instrument in reflection, training, mentoring/supervision, and certification
- Develop familiarity with MBI:TAC domains and Key Features through study, reflection, and review of teaching clips
- Recognize unhelpful ways the tool could be applied and how to guard against this
- Develop skill in applying the tool in assessing and providing feedback with the use of videotaped teaching sessions.
- Develop greater skill in self-reflection on one’s teaching, and offering supportive and constructive feedback to support one’s own and others’ teaching
