Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher Training

Overview

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an evidence-based, experiential program designed to teach participants mindfulness mediation and movement practices they can integrate into their daily life. Brown University's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teaching Certificate is an opportunity to learn how to teach MBSR from highly-experienced MBSR instructors and teacher-trainers. This sequential teacher certification pathway blends in-depth intensive formal courses and seminars with independent reflective study, retreats, assimilation and practice.

Brown's School of Professional Studies is partnered with the researchers at Brown's Mindfulness Center to offer this program.
 
Snapshot
  • Format: Fully online, synchronous sessions
  • Length: Three to six years to complete (depending on your pace)
  • Curriculum: Seven courses, four silent retreats, and successful completion of teaching six MBSR programs
  • Profile: Avg. 2+ years of daily meditation practice and a graduate degree (equivalency in experience is considered)

 

Outcomes

As an MBSR teacher-trainee, you will learn how to:

  • Apply the training to enhance your mindfulness practice
  • Cultivate skills to guide meditation practices and group learning
  • Use the only researched rubric available for assessing mindfulness-based teaching effective
  • Ground yourself in the science of mindfulness
  • Understand the underlying principles of trauma-sensitivity, inclusion and diversity
  • Develop the skills necessary to guide MBSR mindfulness practices for clients, patients or students

Please note: Brown University will recognize and accept from another school and/or provider the MBSR Foundations course only. As of June 1, 2022, we no longer accept any courses as transfer other than MBSR Foundations. If you have taken the MBSR Foundations with another provider you will be asked to indicate the course details when registering for the Teacher Advancement Intensive.
